Local Info Port Ellen and Islay
Livislay is situated in the village of Port Ellen on the south side of the island. Islay is famous for its malt whisky, having eight distilleries, three of which are within three miles of the village, Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg. The recently opened distillery path for walkers and cyclists gives access to the distilleries as well as offering stunning views from Islay’s south-east coast.
Islay has something to offer for everyone:
Steeped in history with Finlaggan, seat of the Lord of the Isles in the north east of the island, Kildalton Cross the 8th century Celtic High Cross at Ardtalla. Many other historical sites, forts and standing stones are to be found throughout the island.
Islay is a haven for natural history and visited by many birdwatchers throughout the year.
Walkers who enjoy the beautiful walking routes, cyclists who enjoy our rural roads, windsurfers, campers and people who appreciate the chill factor Islay has to offer and of course the families who come year after year to enjoy our idyllic unspoilt beaches.
